On July 20, 323 BC, Alexander III (the Great; Αλέξανδρος Γ - Μέγας Αλέξανδρος) was born in the Ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedon.

His birth was marked with omens; it is believed that on his birth day the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, burnt down, his father Philip's general, Parmenion, had defeated a combined Illyrian and Paeonian army in the north, and his father's horse had won at the Olympic Games.

Through Alexander's conquest, Greek language, religion and culture spread out from mainland Greece to as far east as India. He also founded a number of great cities, the most famous being Alexandria in Egypt.

Alexander is considered to be on of the greatest generals of the Ancient world, having never lost a battle in his short life.

He died at the age of 32 in Babylon.
