"Warring hounds
The earliest mention of Indian dogs found in text was traveller records of those who stopped by for learning. Famous Greek geographer, Strabo recorded that Alexander the Great, of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon was a canine enthusiast. He was brought “a dog of unusual size” by the King of Albania, who invented the rumour that “Indians raise a breed that is bred between dog and tiger,” in order to raise the value of striped and spotted dogs that he brought to the conqueror’s court. Sophytes, the ruler of Punjab also had given Alexander a hundred and fifty dogs that had “a strain of tiger blood, remarkable in size, courage and good qualities”, the breed is debated to be the ancient contemporary of Punjab’s Bully Kutta."
