Ο Πέρσης βασιλιάς Δαρείος, μετά τη μάχη της Ισσού, έγραψε στον Αλέξανδρο, ζητώντας να του στείλει απεσταλμένους να διαπραγματευτούν τους όρους ειρήνευσης μεταξύ των δύο εμπολέμων. Την εν λόγω επιστολή δημοσιεύει ο Αρριανός στην «Ανάβαση Αλεξάνδρου» (2-14). Ο ιστορικός την πήρε από το χαμένο σύγγραμμα «περί Αλεξάνδρου» του Πτολεμαίου, το οποίο βασίστηκε τόσο στην προσωπική του πείρα και γνώση όσο και στις «Βασίλειες εφημερίδες» του Αλεξάνδρου.

Ας δούμε λοιπόν τι έγραψε ο Αλέξανδρος στον Δαρείο:

«Οι προγονοί σας, αφού εξεστράτευσαν στη Μακεδονία και την υπόλοιπη Ελλάδα, μας έβλαψαν ενώ δεν είχαν αδικηθεί προηγουμένως- εγώ, επειδή αναδείχτηκα αρχηγός των Ελλήνων και επειδή θέ­λω να τιμωρήσω τους Πέρσες, πέρασα στη Ασία, γιατί εσείς κάνατε την αρχή (της αδικίας). Γιατί βοηθήσατε τους Περίνθιους που αδικούσαν τον πα­τέρα μου, και στη Θράκη, που την εξουσιάζαμε ε­μείς, ο Ώχος έστειλε δύναμη.
Κι όταν δολοφονήθηκε ο πατέρας μου από τους συνωμότες, που εσείς οργανώσατε, όπως οι ίδιοι με επιστολές προς όλους καυχηθήκατε, κι όταν εσύ σκότωσες τον Αρσή με τη βοήθεια του Βαγώου και κατέλαβες την εξουσία ού­τε δίκαια ούτε σύμφωνα με τον περσικό νόμο αλλά αδικώντας τους Πέρσες, και στέλνοντας σε βάρος μου προς τους άλλους Έλληνες εχθρικά γράμματα, για να με πολεμήσουν, και στέλνοντας χρήματα στους Λακεδαιμονίους και σε μερικούς άλλους Έλ­ληνες, που από τις άλλες πόλεις καμιά δεν τα δέχθη­κε ενώ οι Λακεδαιμόνιοι τα πήραν, κι όταν οι απεσταλμένοι σου διέφθειραν τους φίλους μου, και την ειρήνη που πέτυχα για τους Έλληνες επιχείρησαν να διαλύσουν, εξεστράτευσα εναντίον σου, γιατί εσύ είχες κάνει την αρχή της έχθρας.

Κι αφού νίκησα σε μάχη πρώτα τους στρατηγούς και τους σατράπες σου και τώρα εσένα και τις δυνάμεις σου και κατέ­χω τη χώρα που μου την έδωσαν οι θεοί, όσοι απ' αυτούς που παρατάχτηκαν μαζί σου δε σκοτώθηκαν στη μάχη, αλλά κατέφυγαν κοντά μου, όλους αυ­τούς τους φροντίζω και είναι μαζί μου όχι άθελα τους, αλλά οι ίδιοι με τη θέληση τους συνεκστρατεύουν μαζί μου.

Επειδή λοιπόν είμαι κυρίαρχος όλης της Ασίας, έλα κοντά μου. Κι αν φοβάσαι μήπως, αφού έλθεις, πάθεις κάτι άσχημο από μένα, στείλε κάποιους από τους φίλους να πάρουν ένορκες διαβε­βαιώσεις. Αφού έλθεις σε μένα, ζήτησε και πάρε τη μητέρα σου και τη γυναίκα και τα παιδιά και ό,τι άλλο θέλεις.

Για ό,τι θα με πείσεις, θα το έχεις. Και στο εξής, όταν απευθύνεσαι σε μένα, να απευθύνεσαι ως προς ίσο, αλλά αν χρειάζεσαι κάτι, να μην απευθύνεσαι σε μένα ως κυρίαρχο όλων των δικών σου" αλλιώς εγώ θα σκεφτώ για σένα ως άδικο. Αν όμως έχεις διαφορετική άποψη για τη βασιλεία, μείνε και αγωνίσου γι' αυτήν και μη φεύγεις, γιατί εγώ θα έρθω εναντίον σου, όπου κι αν είσαι».

The crown
The crown bears 313 oak leaves and 68 acorns. According to Greek mythology, Zeus' sacred tree was the oak.
The crown dates back to 350-325 BC and it was found inside the Tomb of Philip II in Vergina, Macedonia, northern Greece.

The larrnax
A heavy solid gold casket from the rich, unplundered tomb of Greek King Philip II of Macedon, which contained the assassinated king's burnt bones, was found at the Macedonian Royal Tombs in Vergina, Macedonia, northern Greece.
The symbol on the top is the Sun of Vergina, an ancient Pan-Hellenic symbol which was widely used in the Kingdom of Macedon. It consists of 16 rays; 12 of them represent the 12 Greek gods and the remaining 4 represent the 4 elements (air, water, fire and soil).

Philip II reigned from 359 to 336 B.C., expanding his kingdom to include Greece's perennially squabbling city states. His son and successor, Alexander the Great, who distinguished himself in Philip's Greek campaigns, expanded Macedonian rule at the head of a Greek army, reaching as far as the borders of India.

From the era of Philip II of Macedon, Alexander the Great’s father. It consists of 30 gold leaves and two sets of fruit. Archaeologists have unearthed globally only two more similar Macedonian wreaths. They claim that they were used by priests during Dionysus’ feast.

There is nothing atypical here for the process of the creation of any modern nation, except when falsification from the type of substitution of the word 'Bulgarian' with the word 'Macedonian' were made. We reach towards some fictional ethnic purity which we seek in the depths of the history and we are angry at those which dare to call us Slavs and our language and culture Slavic!? We are angry when they name us what we - if we have to define ourselves in such categories - are, showing that we are people full with complexes which are ashamed for ourselves."

An impressive statue in Thessaloniki (Θεσσαλονίκη) of Alexander the Great's father, Philip II of Macedon (Φίλιππος Β΄ ὁ Μακεδών).

Philip was the king of Macedon from 359 BC until his assassination in 336 BC, when he was killed by Pausanias of Orestis (Παυσανίας ἐκ τῆς Ὀρεστίδος), a member of his personal bodyguard.
